Time travel for cretins

September 11, 2006

Amazing. Simply amazing.

He sat there and quacked out the same tired lines, as though the past four years simply hadn’t happened. The terrorists hate our freedoms. Afghanistan is a model of a democratic Middle East. We are safer but still we are not safe. Iraq is part of the war on terror. Saddam was a threat. On and on. If you’re a Bush voter troubled by the comprehensive failure of every Republican nostrum except organized looting by campaign contributors, then let Ol’ Chimp Eyes croon you back to a simpler time. Lie me a river, baby.

It is simply appalling to think that this lying cretin will be in charge of our country for another few years. It is even more appalling to think that our children and grandchildren will live in a world he helped bring into being through incompetence, corruption and imbecile short-term political calculations. What cretin could possibly support this man? And what political party could be feckless enough to lose an election to him?

It is incomprehensible to me that the Democrats could have spent years cowering in the Congress while this fraud and his cronies ran roughshod over American traditions and ideals.

The Democrats had goddamned better win this election big time, and win the one after it, too. Because it will never get any easier for them than this. They will never have a more inviting target, or a more vulnerable opponent. If they can’t pull this off, they’re worse than useless — they’re an impediment to something better and more effective.

This is it, guys. Deliver America from the clutches of these thieves and idiots and all will be forgiven, if not forgotten. Blow this opportunity, fail in this vital purpose, screw it up yet again and you can all go jump as far as I’m concerned.

Get us out of this mess, or get the hell out of our faces. Notice has been served. You have been warned.

Is it just my machine, or is there something drastically wrong with YouTube?

    Sorry – it’s just me.

Am I supposed to be able to read this pale pink and pale grey on dirty white and in tiny text?

What you are really asking is that politicians save us from other politicians. Both parties are different sides of the same corrupt coin. Until we the people realize this, we as a nation will continue to flounder.

A well-written post; congrats too, on the C&L link. I see Cy’s point: I think a little larger font would help us old hippies read your fine work. A more narrow sidebar would help much.

I also see J’s point but this system of politicians running the country is the only system we’ve got. What would you propose as an alternative? We DO need to work harder to open up the electoral process, and make “serving” in congress a short period of “public service” rather than a career.

    Hello Cy,

    Firefox:
View -> Text Size -> Increase
    Internet Explorer:
View -> Text Size -> Largest

    Will fix it for ya.

Blue Gal — I posted this a couple days ago. It’s a solution of sorts. Unfortunately it would require people to be more American than either conservative or liberal, and I don’t think that’s going to happen. The animosity between the two sides has taken on a life of it’s own.

Blue — Either I did something wrong or this blog doesn’t allow links in the comments. At any ratem, here the URL to my post:

Thanks Ron Fischer. Just read your kind response. Trouble is, when I have selected ‘largest’ it has had mixed effects. So it looks as if I will have to get used to doing a quick ON and then OFF again each time I meet a problem. Cheers, Cy

Too bad ‘largest’ does nothing to make the colour denser. Uh-oh! I just tilted this flat-screen up so that it is at 90 degrees to my line of looking, the faint grey becomes less-faint grey. Still not good, but better. I can probably live with it now. (I tilt the screen down when I view NASA TV from my armchair, lower than this stool I use at the keyboard, and forget to re-adjust later for typing). Cheers again, Cy
