You go, Senator

September 20, 2006

It was high time for state Sen. Ron Rice to get a good shellacking for his Bizzaro world opposition to the creation of clean needle-exchange programs in New Jersey. He’s thrown everything against the wall to justify blocking the life-saving program, even invoking the specter of the infamous Tuskegee medical experiments — a stupid comparison, and an appalling one, considering the impact needle-borne HIV and other diseases have on Rice’s black constituents in Essex County.

So let’s all put our hands together for Sen. Nia Gill. I was rooting for her to succeed Jon Corzine in the U.S. Senate, though I’ve since come to realize just how badly I’ve underrated Bob Menendez over the past years. At any rate, Nia Gill opened a can of whup-ass on Rice in the state legislature and columnist Tom Morgan was there for the show. Read it, and have a laugh on Rice.

Another sign of the downward trajectory of a politician’s influence, one wonders where his ass is gonna land, & if it’s worth placing a few soft pillows at that point.
