Wond’ring aloud

November 28, 2006

In what suburb of Bizarro World does Newt Gingrich get invited to speak at an event honoring people and organizations that honor and promote the First Amendment and free speech? Where he then devotes part of his speech to advocating restrictions on free speech in order to, as he put it, “get ahead of the curve” on fighting terrorists.

Just in case you were wondering what other parts of the Constitution incur Newt’s amphibious wrath, he also denounced court rulings on the separation of church and state that he felt needlessly impaired the ability of Christianists to ram their faith down people’s throats.

Maybe he was invited to give everyone a look at the kind of enemy they need to keep an eye out for. If that’s the case, then kudos to them. As for the rest of us, Gingrich continues to dangle the enticing prospect of a run for the presidential nomination.

Newt Gingrich running for president? I wanna see that almost as bad as I want to see Congresswoman Ring-a-Ding-Ding make a political comeback bid. Let it be so!
