Great minds of conservatism

December 15, 2006

This Bill O’Reilly quote has already become an Internet legend, but I’m going to feature it anyway, if only for the sheer WTF-ness of it all. Confronted with a guest who, citing science and research, kept pointing out that a child raised by a same-sex couple suffers no psychological harm from the fact, O’Reilly asked “why wouldn’t nature then make it that anybody could get pregnant by eating a cupcake?”

To paraphrase Raymond Chandler, that’s the kind of question guaranteed to knock the keenest mind for a loop. Only a halfwit could even begin to think in the terms needed to frame a response.

  1. Caveat Says:

Yeah, why wouldn’t ‘nature’ have done that? Cupcakes first emerged 6,000 years ago when the earth was created, they were for sale in all the bakeries back then, so why didn’t silly ol’ ‘nature’ think of that? So easy, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, makes a lot of sense.

You know, I’m kind of sorry you posted this because it is insane and inane on so many levels that my head hurts!

  2. I wonder if Bill O’Reilly wants schools to teach how to put condoms on cupcakes or if he’ll be cool with teaching cupcake abstinence.
