Today’s Quote

March 30, 2007

Today’s quote comes from Albert Camus, who saw France doing to itself in Algeria what the Bush administration is doing to America in Iraq:

There are means that cannot be excused. And I should like to be able to love my country and still love justice. I don’t want just any greatness for it, particularly a greatness born of blood and falsehood. I want to keep it alive by keeping justice alive.

From “Letters to a German Friend,” collected in Resistance, Rebellion, and Death

The aphorism ‘ Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it, ‘ appeared ( apeears ?) in many US classrooms.

Apparently, a more universal manifestation is those who fail to study history or anything else, are often those who lead us to failure.
