Tell Me Another

May 8, 2007

Oh, come on. Six guys were planning to take on Fort Dix? Using information gleaned from pizza deliveries? Practicing for their strike with paintball guns?

I realize that these poll results are looking pretty bad for Bush and the GOP, but does the pimping have to be this blatant? Don’t they realize the scary-headlines con is way past its sell-by date? Haven’t they learned anything from the speed with which the arrest of those hapless zanies in Miami last year dissolved into farce? Can’t they at least review a few episodes of 24 to get the targets straight?

You want to know about terrorists? Check out these guys. Then come back and tell me about how we have to fight the terra-ists in Iraq so we don’t have to fight them on our shores. Guess what — the terrorists are already here. Only they want to kill dark-skinned people, so somehow it just doesn’t seem to be that big a deal.

  1. Jersey Dan in DC Says:

Isn’t the real story here the fact that decent police work, not Gitmo intellitorture, is what uncovered this plot? (And, don’t kid yourself either — you CAN kill a lot of unarmed soldiers if you blast your way through the gates and are prepared to die in the effort.)

So, why CAN’T the USA use the basic law-enforcement tactics that work here (and in the UK) without trampling rights? Has ANYTHING EVER come out of our illegal conduct in Cuba and elsewhere?

  2. Steven Hart Says:

You’re absolutely right — despite all the torture fantasies derived from “24,” good, scrupulous police work is our most effective tool in dealing with terrorists. This certainly demonstrates that.

  3. Sharon GR Says:

NJ Democrats didn’t send enough homeland security funds to the Republican towns around Fort Dix, but still terrorism was thwarted by thorough police work?

    Imagine that.

  4. Chucky Says:

Speaking of Cuba, the US government released Jose Posada Carriles this week. He is wanted in Venezuela for bombing a Cuban jetliner in 1976 that killed all the people on board. The Bushies fear the blowback.
