Women and Children First

October 19, 2007

“Women and children first” used to mean they were the first ones into the lifeboats when the ship was sinking. In the Republican world, it means women and children are the first ones thrown overboard — especially children.

Brendan Nyhan talks about the “poor children first” propaganda line against S-CHIP and, not surprisingly, finds it to be misleading garbage aimed at inflating GOP standing in the polls while confusing the issue.

How convenient that New Jersey Republicans James Saxton, Scott Garrett and Rodney Frelinghuysen are all up for re-election in 2008. If these mutts think blind loyalty to King George II and his warped ideology are all that matters, then its time for voters who understand American values to send them to the pound.

Those guys are either consistant ideologues or they feel really safe. Because it’s gonna be an issue in ’08. Congressional races still spin largely on local stuff, & extending health care to the children of working families is local. Frelinghuysen probably is safe, but at least the false image he’s always projected of moderate Kean/Fenwick style Repugnacism is gone.
