The Flea Circus Is Coming to Town!

October 22, 2007

Right-wing bottom feeders don’t come much grubbier than David Horowitz, so it’s good to see that even the conservatives at the Princeton Tory found that his recent appearance at Princeton University to promote “Islamofascist Awareness Week” amounted to “little more than spittle-soaked vitriol.” Apparently the Duke University rape-case fiasco figured into Horowitz’s rants in some fashion. Does that mean the prosecutor on the case is a jihadi? Or the woman who made the accusation?

I’d ask Horowitz myself but he’s jetting all over the place to talk up “Islamofascism Awareness Week,” a cross-country hatenanny designed to foster the maximum amount of hysteria against Islam and Muslims. The events list includes such luminaries Ann Coulter, who’s been making headlines for saying that Jews need to be “perfected” by becoming Christians and is now ready to start puking on Muslims again; Cyrus Nowrasteh, producer of a made-for-TV movie that lied about the most important event in America to take place so far this century; and Daniel Pipes, who has his own pet Islamic terrorist group to promote. Qute a crowd, eh?

In Europe and the U.K., the war on terror is serious business, with real threats and genuine terror plots being unearthed, tracked and blocked by excellent intelligence and police work. In the United States, the war on terror is an ideological opera buffa, a stage for wingnut Jack Bauer fantasies and conservative posturing, where terror alerts serve mainly to distract the public whenever bad news threatens the Bush administration, and help NewsMax hustle “emergency radios” for use in case Osama bin Laden turns up at the Burger King drive-through. The David Horowitz flea circus is of a piece with this clown show.

For all the ominous rumblings coming from Michael Chertoff’s gut, the “terrorists” arrested with much ballyhoo have turned out to be mental patients who want to blow up Kennedy Airport with a Bic lighter, or suburban jihadis who were supposedly going to take on Fort Dix with information gleaned from pizza deliveries and expertise honed with weekend paintball battles.

It’s becoming more obvious every day that one of the main reasons murderous jihadi fervor hasn’t taken hold in America the way it has in Europe is that America’s openness and tolerance defuse the kind of seething resentment that drives terrorist cells overseas. Despite the constant braying of talk-radio jackasses and the undeniable incidence of prejudice and bigotry in the larger population, Muslim immigrants for the most part are doing well in America.

How thoughtful, then, for the Horowitz crowd to do everything they can to whip up fear and anger against Islam and Muslims. They’re pious about it, too — in their “Islamofascist Awareness Week” brochure they make a point of inviting Muslim groups to work with them. I doubt they’ve been getting much of a response. I don’t know the Koran, but somewhere in there is an equivalent to the old folk maxim, “Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.”

Its good to see more people performing flea circuses whatever their politics. I wonder if he feeds his own fleas or has one of his minions do it for him.

  2. […] I noted earlier in the week, the Princeton University conservatives also found Horowitz a little less than inspiring. So I guess that’s one thing all of us — left, right, center and edges — can all […]

  3. Muslims Against Sharia congratulate David Horowitz FREEDOM CENTER and Mike Adams, Tammy Bruce, Phyllis Chesler, Ann Coulter, Nonie Darwish, Greg Davis, Stephen Gale, David Horowitz, Joe Kaufman, Michael Ledeen, Michael Medved, Alan Nathan, Cyrus Nowrasteh, Daphne Patai, Daniel Pipes, Dennis Prager, Luana Saghieh, Rick Santorum, Jonathan Schanzer, Christina Sommers, Robert Spencer, Brian Sussman, Ed Turzanski, Ibn Warraq and other speakers on the success of the Islamofascism Awareness Week.

Islamofascism (or Islamism) is the main threat facing modern civilization and ignorance about this threat is astounding. We hope that this event becomes regular and reaches every campus.

A great many Westerners do not see the clear distinction between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism). They need to understand that the difference between Islam and Islamism (Islamofascism) is the same as the difference between Christianity and Christian Identity Movement (White Supremacy Movement).
