The Exploding Head Brigade
January 31, 2008
Because they need to keep themselves in a continuous state of sputtering Yosemite Sam outrage over liberal perfidies, winger bloggers must constantly search for fresh incitements to hysteria. Sometimes they have to scratch pretty hard to find them. So now they’re howling about how Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, failed to defend the honor of ex-ambassador John Bolton at the recent gathering in Davos:
The moderator of the forum joked that Khalilzad has a “really formidable advantage of having a name that is not John Bolton.” Because Khalilzad let that comment stand without repudiating it, right-wing bloggers have erupted in full rage that Khalilzad did not jump to defend Bolton’s honor (as they surely would have). Thus, Khalilzad’s behavior was “disgusting,” “an insult to the United States” and showed “a lack of testicular fortitude.”
That’s a fine howdy-do, considering that Khalilzad is a loyal neocon who stuck to the Team Chimpy playbook throughout the Davos forum. Imagine being outraged over the hurt feelings of a glowering dolt like John Bolton, who should thank God daily he wasn’t pelted with rotten fruit every time he set foot inside the United Nations.
What will be the next outrage to capture the attention of the Exploding Head Brigade? Whatever it is, we won’t have to wait long to hear about it.
